Single Bay Parking Meter

Same and better come together to provide enhanced parking solutions. Cities and towns greatly depend on revenue from parking meters, but today’s single space meters fall short in meeting the needs of administrators and drivers. IPS USA, a start-up parking device company, saw an opportunity to improve outdated technology. They came to us with a challenge to create a single-space parking meter that would give drivers a variety of payment options but, more significantly, would be able to be retrofit on existing ‘lollipop’ metering poles that are ubiquitous to most cities. Drivers wanted a familiar system of single-pay meters that would enable them to pay with credit cards. City administrators wanted a cost-effective system with common parts and robust materials that would protect their investment. Our team miniaturised complex, patented technology that enables familiar but improved functionality, and fit it into the existing parking meter infrastructure. The interface’s four capacitive buttons provide simple navigation for users during the payment process. A GPS location system allows remote monitoring, including networked maintenance. The solar power system with battery back-up provides sustainable long life. Built with high strength zinc alloy castings and polycarbonate moldings, the enclosures are rugged and durable. This ingenious system enables cities and towns wanting to accept card payments to easily upgrade their entire system without having to make major changes to the current infrastructure. It is estimated that there are 4 to 5 million single space parking meters installed in the USA that accept only coins, so the possibilities for improving the parking meter experience across the country are vast. IPS has worked with the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco to launch 15,000 units in 2010. The response has been overwhelmingly positive with drivers actually lining up to use the new meters. The growth potential is significant and imminent.
